Please do not provide more personal or medical information than is reasonably necessary for us to understand the adjustment or assistance you require.
Photographs and video
Photographs or short videos may occasionally be taken at Curious Club gatherings for purposes such as documenting our activities and promoting The Curious Club through our website, newsletter or social media.
Where an individual is the identifiable subject of promotional photography or video, we will take appropriate steps to tell them how the image will be used and obtain consent where required.
We will also respect reasonable requests from attendees who do not wish to be photographed.
If you subsequently have concerns about an image of you that we have published, please contact us.

If somebody books a ticket for you or provides your information to us, we may therefore receive personal information about you indirectly.

5. Our lawful bases for using your information
UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful reason for using personal information.
Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on the following lawful bases.
Contract
We use information where it is necessary to provide something you have requested from us or to fulfil an agreement with you.
For example, if you book a Curious Club event, we need to process information about you in order to administer that booking, take payment and communicate important information about the event.
Consent
We may rely on your consent for activities including:
sending certain marketing communications;
some uses of photographs or video;
certain cookies and analytics technologies; and
processing certain sensitive information you have voluntarily provided where explicit consent is required.
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
Withdrawal of consent does not make any use of your information before the withdrawal unlawful.
Legitimate interests
We may process information where this is reasonably necessary for the legitimate interests of operating and developing The Curious Club and where those interests are not overridden by your privacy rights.
These interests may include:
running and improving our events;
responding to enquiries;
understanding attendance and demand;
maintaining relationships with venues and suppliers;
ensuring events operate safely and effectively;
protecting our organisation from fraud or misuse;
maintaining appropriate business records;
improving our website and communications; and
promoting and developing The Curious Club.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider the impact on your privacy and whether you would reasonably expect your information to be used in that way.
Legal obligation
We may process information where we need to comply with a legal obligation.
For example, we may be required to retain certain transaction and accounting records for tax or financial reporting purposes.
6. Marketing and newsletters
We do not treat booking an event as automatic consent to receive ongoing marketing.
Where required, joining our mailing list is a separate choice.
If you choose to subscribe, we may send you information including:
forthcoming Curious Club gatherings;
new locations;
special events;
Curious Club news;
booking announcements;
occasional surveys or requests for feedback; and
other information relevant to The Curious Club community.
Our email marketing is currently managed through Mailchimp.
Mailchimp may record information relating to your subscription and interaction with emails in order to provide the mailing service and help us understand the effectiveness of our communications.
You may unsubscribe at any time by:
selecting unsubscribe in any marketing email; or
contacting us directly.
We may retain a minimal suppression record after you unsubscribe so that we can ensure you are not accidentally added back to our marketing list.
7. Booking through Ticket Tailor
We use Ticket Tailor to provide online ticketing and booking facilities.
When you make a booking, Ticket Tailor processes information submitted through the booking system and provides relevant booking information to us so that we can administer your attendance.
This may include your name, contact information, ticket information, booking details and transaction information.
Information collected through Ticket Tailor will be handled in accordance with both this Privacy Policy and Ticket Tailor’s applicable privacy terms.
We will only use booking information obtained through Ticket Tailor for purposes that are appropriate to the relationship you have with The Curious Club.
In particular, we will not treat an event booking as consent to receive our email newsletter unless you have separately opted in to receive marketing communications or another lawful basis applies.
8. Payments and Stripe
Where payments are made through Stripe, Stripe processes your payment information.
Stripe has its own obligations in relation to the personal and financial information it processes.
The Curious Club does not normally have access to your complete card details.
We may retain transaction information supplied to us by Stripe or Ticket Tailor where this is required for:
booking administration;
refunds;
reconciliation;
accounting;
fraud prevention; and
compliance with tax and legal obligations.
9. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information with carefully selected organisations where this is necessary to operate The Curious Club.
These may include:
Ticket Tailor, for event booking and ticket management;
Stripe or other payment providers, for payment processing;
Mailchimp, for newsletter and email marketing management;
website hosting and website technology providers;
analytics and cookie providers;
cloud storage and IT service providers;
professional advisers such as accountants or legal advisers;
venues, where limited information is genuinely necessary to facilitate an event or accessibility arrangement;
suppliers or contractors assisting us in delivering a service;
insurers;
government, tax, regulatory or law-enforcement bodies where required by law; and
other organisations where disclosure is necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
We aim to provide third parties only with the information they reasonably require for the relevant purpose.
Where another organisation processes personal information on our behalf, we take appropriate steps to ensure suitable data protection arrangements are in place.
10. International transfers
Some technology providers used by The Curious Club, including services used for email marketing, payments, website services or cloud technology, may process or store information outside the United Kingdom.
Where personal information is transferred internationally, appropriate safeguards will be used in accordance with applicable UK data protection legislation.
Depending on the country and service involved, these safeguards may include:
UK adequacy regulations;
the UK International Data Transfer Agreement;
an approved UK Addendum to standard contractual clauses; or
another lawful transfer mechanism.
You may contact us if you would like further information about the safeguards relating to a particular service.
11. How long we keep information
We do not keep personal information indefinitely simply because we can.
How long we retain information depends on why it was collected and whether there are legal, financial or operational reasons for keeping it.
As a general guide:
Event bookings and financial transactions
Information required for accounting, taxation or financial record-keeping may normally be retained for up to six years after the end of the relevant accounting period, or for another period where required by law.
Event administration information
Operational information which is no longer required following an event will be deleted or minimised when there is no longer a reasonable business or legal reason to retain it.
Newsletter subscriptions
We will keep your marketing information while you remain subscribed.
If you unsubscribe, we may retain limited information on a suppression list so that we can respect your request not to receive future marketing.
Enquiries
Routine enquiries that do not lead to an ongoing relationship will generally be retained only for as long as reasonably necessary, normally no longer than 12–24 months, unless there is a reason to retain them for longer.
Accessibility or sensitive information
Information concerning accessibility, health or similar sensitive circumstances will not be retained for longer than necessary for the purpose for which you provided it unless there is an appropriate reason and lawful basis to retain it.
Photographs and promotional material
Images used in our communications may be retained for as long as they remain relevant to The Curious Club’s legitimate promotional or historical purposes, subject to the lawful basis on which they were obtained and any applicable rights of the individuals concerned.
Business contacts
Information relating to venues, suppliers and other business contacts may be kept for the duration of the relationship and for a reasonable period afterwards for administrative, legal and record-keeping purposes.
We periodically review the personal information we hold and securely delete or anonymise information we no longer need.
12. How we protect your information
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information from:
unauthorised access;
accidental loss;
misuse;
alteration;
disclosure; and
destruction.
These measures may include access controls, password protection, secure third-party systems, appropriate account security and limiting access to information to those who genuinely need it.
No method of transmitting information over the internet or storing information electronically can be guaranteed to be completely secure. However, we take appropriate precautions proportionate to the nature of the information we hold.
13. Cookies

We recommend reviewing the privacy controls and policies of the social media services you use.
15. Links to other websites
Our website may contain links to external websites, including venues, booking services or other organisations.

16. Children
The Curious Club is primarily intended for adults.
We do not knowingly use our website or mailing list to collect personal information directly from children for marketing purposes.
If an event is specifically opened to people under 18, we will consider what additional privacy information, consent or safeguarding arrangements may be required for that activity.
17. Automated decision-making
We do not currently make decisions about individuals using solely automated processing which produces legal or similarly significant effects.
We may use basic analytics or mailing-list functionality to understand matters such as email engagement or website activity, but this is not used to make significant automated decisions about individuals.
18. Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances and the lawful basis under which we process your information, you may have the right to:
access the personal information we hold about you;
